Junior Curling Program
Due to the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) CurlBC has canceled all 2019-20 championship events. This includes the BC U18 competition in Parksville that our junior team was scheduled to participate in.
Summerland has an active Junior Curling Club that meets every Wednesday after school from 3:30-5:00 pm mid-October through mid-March.
We have found that 10 years old is a good age for boys or girls to start curling, but we do welcome younger students if they are particularly interested in curling, or if they have an older brother or sister in our club.
We provide all the necessary equipment (brooms, grippers and sliders) and a protective cap or toque for new curlers. All you need are clean soft-soled shoes or sneakers, stretchy pants, a warm jacket and gloves.
If you're new to the sport don't worry, we have good coaches and we're all about having fun. With a few months experience, even new curlers can compete in South Okanagan junior bonspiels (tournaments) including our own windup Summerland Ice Halo Junior Funspiel.
