FAQs

Frequently asked questions from new and returning curlers

I have never curled. Can I try it out first before committing?

Yes. You can arrange one-on-one time with an experienced curler. The club also partners with Summerland Parks and Rec to run Learn to Curl sessions in the first three Saturdays of the season.

I would like to curl but I don’t have any curling equipment. Can I rent some?

While there is no rental shop, equipment is available to borrow while you get started. Bring clean indoor shoes and comfortable clothing.

I have not curled for a number of years and am rusty. Is that okay?

Absolutely. Many club members returned after long breaks and got back into the game quickly.

My knees/hips give me problems. Can I still curl?

Yes. Stick delivery allows curlers to throw from standing, and many members use it successfully.

Will there be classes/workshops for novice curlers?

Yes. The Learn to Curl course is offered in partnership with Summerland Parks and Rec over the first three Saturdays.

Can I register with friends and be on the same team?

Yes. You can register as your own 4-person team or be placed on a team.

I cannot commit to every week. Can I still participate?

Yes. Join the Spare List, or consider a 5-player team rotation.

I go south after Christmas. Can I still join a full-time league?

Yes. You can register normally and receive a refund for the unused portion if you leave after Christmas.

I only want to curl occasionally through the season. Is that possible?

Yes. Register as a spare so you can sub in across leagues.

I am new to the area. Is curling a good way to meet people?

Absolutely. Curling is highly social before, during, and after games, including post-game time in the lounge.

What happens at a curling game?

Teams gather before play, shake hands before and after the game, self-officiate by honor system, and typically socialize together afterward.
