Junior Curling 2019-2020

Summerland has an active Junior Curling Club that meets every Wednesday after school 3:30-5:00 PM, starting October 16, 2019 until mid-March 2020.

We have found that 10 years old is a good age for boys or girls to start curling, but we do welcome younger students if they are particularly interested in curling, or if they have an older brother or sister in our club.

Fees are minimal - only $40.00 for the season.

We provide all the necessary equipment (brooms, grippers and sliders) and a protective cap or toque for new curlers. All you need are clean soft-soled shoes or sneakers, stretchy pants, a warm jacket and gloves If you're new to the sport don't worry: we have good coaches and we're all about having fun. With a few months experience, even new curlers can compete in South Okanagan junior bonspiels (tournaments) including our own windup Summerland Ice Halo Junior Funspiel on February 29, 2020.

Curling is an Olympic sport. Beyond our fun league, there are opportunities to advance to competition levels. Summerland has a junior boys team who did well in the 2018 BC Winter Games and are now aiming for the under-18 provincials.

To support our team, this year on November 16, our club will be providing a one day bonspiel for competitive junior teams: the Ice Halo Summerland Junior Playerspiel.

Ice Halo makes the protective caps and toques that we wear and supports both of our bonspiels.

If you are interested, either register on club registration night, or come to the curling rink any Wednesday after school.
