JUNIOR CURLING 2018-2019
Summerland has an active Junior Curling Club that meets every Wednesday after school 3:30-5:00 PM, from mid-October to mid-March.
We have found that 10 years old is a good age for boys or girls to start curling, but we do welcome younger students if they are particularly interested in curling, or if they have an older brother or sister in our club. Our junior club provides some fun instruction for curlers as young as 5 or 6, but very young children need to be accompanied by an adult.
Fees are minimal - only $40.00 for the season.
We provide all the necessary equipment (brooms, grippers and sliders) and a protective cap or toque for new curlers. All you need are clean soft-soled shoes or sneakers, stretchy pants, a warm jacket and gloves.
If you're new to the sport don't worry - we have good coaches. With a few months experience you may also participate in a South Okanagan Sunday afternoon league, and junior bonspiels (tournaments) including our own Summerland Junior Bonspiel in March.
Curling is an Olympic sport. Beyond our fun league, there are opportunities to advance to competition levels. This year 2 older boys from our club teamed with 2 Penticton boys and did well in the BC Winter Games for under-16s.
If you are interested, either register on club registration night, or come to the curling rink any Wednesday after school. Watch the main page of this website for registration and curling start dates.
